Hello Hellebore Lovers!

There are only so many days until Christmas and even fewer until the Christmas Hurrah! Our annual Christmas event is coming up the first weekend of December with lots of Christmas roses and fun workshops: wreathmaking, outdoor containers, indoor containers and a free workshop on the Christmas rose and how to care for it in the garden. Full details about the Christmas Hurrah! are below. We hope you'll join us!

For this year's Christmas Hurrah! event we are adding a pre-sale feature to allow you to order your hellebores in advance. The pre-sale is now open for ordering. This will allow you to research and shop from the comfort of your own home and allow us to bring in the exact hellebores you desire for holiday decoration and gift-giving this December.

Our list below and on the ordering page (follow the link) is organized by when each cultivar normally comes into bloom allowing you to plan for a whole winter of colour in your garden.

Have a look and enjoy!

This year we are excited to continue our tradition: The Christmas Hurrah! The inspiration for the event comes from combining a new innovation in hellebore breeding with an old tradition from northern Europe.

A New Innovation

The new innovation is the Gold Collection cultivars of the Christmas rose, Helleborus niger, from the breeder Hueger of Germany that show incredible vigour and floriferousness relative to older forms. They also start blooming in November and December in our climate, much earlier than the common Christmas rose.

An Old Tradition

The old or traditional inspiration comes from northern Europe where the Christmas rose is brought inside the house in pots to grace Christmas tables and displays or given as party gifts over the holiday season just as we would a pointsettia in North America. Unlike pointsettias, the hellebores can be planted out in the garden in spring for years of enjoyment.

At our Christmas Hurrah! you'll be able to purchase blooming plants of Helleborus niger 'Jacob', 'Jonas' and 'Josef Lemper' which bloom from November or December all the way to March! We will also have other cutting edge members of the Gold Collection available for sale that begin blooming in the new year.

You'll also be able to participate in various workshops to doll up your hellebores with some festive decorations and plantings and take them home to adorn your house or garden or to give as gifts. Four workshops will give you the opportunity to doll up your home for Christmas using the Christmas rose.
