They'll give you a long season of colour as well as flamboyance and summer intrigue.

Scrophularia macrantha Cardinale Red 'TNSCRCR' - Redbirds in a Tree - Scrophularia macrantha is a Penstemon relative whose common name is redbirds in a tree. This interesting shrub blooms from early summer until frost with curious, bright red, tubular flowers with white lips that look like little red birds resting in a tree. Cardinale Red is a dwarf, compact form with denser branching and larger flowers in tighter flower heads. Great for hummingbirds and bees. Hardy to zone 5 and drought tolerant once established. Plant in well-drained soils. Monarda punctata 'Beebop' - Dotted Horsemint - Monarda punctata 'Beebop' is an amazing variation on the theme of beebalms that will amaze fans of this superlative genus. 'Beebop' is a compact, early-blooming selection of the species in which the tubular flowers are yellow with brown spots but take a back seat to the beauty and colour of the large, lance-shaped bracts that are silver and silver-pink. Appreciates well-drained, sandy soils.
Lupinus Westcountry 'Masterpiece' - Lupin - The Westcountry lupins from England are the most beautiful in the world with incredible colours, including bicolours, tons of flowers, and great vigour. 'Masterpiece' is a magnificent lupin with rich royal purple buds opening to flowers with warm purple wings and banners, the banners flecked with orange. Lupins frequently go through a "dumb phase" after blooming. Plant them behind something that is one foot tall and cut back six inches after flowering to encourage new growth and rebloom. Lupinus Westcountry 'Red Rum' - Lupin - The Westcountry lupins from England are the most beautiful in the world with incredible colours, including bicolours, tons of flowers, and great vigour. 'Red Rum' is a subtle tricolour with red wings and rose banners with a flush of white. Lupins frequently go through a "dumb phase" after blooming. Plant them behind something that is one foot tall and cut back six inches after flowering to encourage new growth and rebloom.
Scabiosa columbaria Flutter 'Deep Blue' - Pincushion Flower - Scabiosa Flutter 'Deep Blue' is a pincushion flower with larger blooms and richer colours than 'Butterfly Blue'. From spring throughout summer it produces large, vibrant, lavender-blue pompoms atop ferny, compact foliage. Scabiosa columbaria Flutter 'Rose Pink' - Pincushion Flower - Scabiosa Flutter 'Rose Pink' is a non-stop bloomer from spring to late summer with large pincushions of pink to lavender-pink atop attractive, compact, ferny foliage. Stunning as a mass planting.
Monarda Bee You 'Bee-Free' - Beebalm, Bergamont - Monarda Bee You 'Bee-Free' is a compact, floriferous, and highly mildew resistant beebalm with vibrant electric magenta flowers on plants to just 15-18 inches tall. Monarda Bee You 'Bee-Happy' - Beebalm, Bergamont - Monarda Bee You 'Bee-Happy' is a compact, floriferous, and highly mildew resistant beebalm with glowing magenta-red to vermilion red flowers similar to 'Jacob Cline' on plants to just 15-18 inches tall. Monarda Bee You 'Bee-Lieve' - Beebalm, Bergamont - Monarda Bee You 'Bee-Lieve' is a compact, floriferous, and highly mildew resistant beebalm with burgundy buds opening to pink flowers that age to pale pink on plants to just 15-18 inches tall. Perfect for the front of the border or containers where you can brush past the fragrant foliage. Also great for bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. Tanacetum coccineum Radiant Deep Pink - Painted Daisy - The very cold hardy, old-fashioned painted daisy (Tanacetum coccineum) gets an update with the Radiant Collection with plants that are more compact, blooming to just two feet tall over a longer period, and that stay strongly upright without flopping. Radiant Deep Pink has glowing magenta flowers with bright yellow centres. An excellent, long-lasting cut flower. The lush, green foliage is finely divided and fern-like.
Echinacea Kismet Intense Orange - Coneflower - Echinacea Kismet Intense Orange is a compact, upright coneflower producing a bounty of orange blooms that age through all the tones from atomic orange, to pumpkin, to light orange. It blooms over an extended period of time from early summer to frost. Plant in full sun in average (not overly rich), well-drained soils. Avoid soils that are overly moist in winter. Tanacetum coccineum Radiant Light Pink - Painted Daisy - The very cold hardy, old-fashioned painted daisy (Tanacetum coccineum) gets an update with the Radiant Collection with plants that are more compact, blooming to just two feet tall over a longer period, and that stay strongly upright without flopping. Echinacea Kismet Raspberry - Coneflower - Echinacea Kismet Raspberry is a compact, upright coneflower that amazes with its long bloom time and sheer number of flowers from early summer until frost. The flowers are large, emerging glowing raspberry-pink and slowly lightening with age creating great multi-toned displays. Plant in full sun in average (not overly rich), well-drained soils. Avoid soils that are overly moist in winter. Echinacea Butterfly 'Postman' - Coneflower - 'Postman' is a fiery true red Echinacea from the Butterfly Series with strong sturdy stems and beautiful glowing flowers with overlapping petals. Flowers will emerge red-orange, deepen to orange-red, and then deepen further to true hot red. All members of this series are named after species of butterfly. Echinacea in coastal BC should be planted in hot, dry, sunny spots with thin, average to poor soils for best overwintering. Elsewhere they love to be frozen solid all winter long.
Coreopsis Big Bang 'Sun Splash - Tickseed - Coreopsis 'Sun Splash' is a fiery member of the Big Bang series with flowers of bright red flaring outwards from orange-yellow centres to golden tips that cover the lush green foliage all summer long. If blooming slows down, shear lightly to deadhead and encourage the plant to reflush more flowers. Helenium Mariachi 'Salsa' - Sneezeweed - Helenium Mariachi 'Salsa' produces spicy, red petals with orange highlights around dark centres. This selection has a short and compact habit and is great at the front of the border. Helenium are naturally resistant, even toxic, to deer and rabbits.
Alstroemeria Fabiana - Peruvian Lily - Alstroemeria Fabiana is a long-blooming Peruvian lily with yellow and creamy white flowers and dark detailing with a flush of pink on the reverse. It has the added attraction of variegated foliage with dark green leaves with streaky, creamy white margins. Fabiana thus looks great all spring up until bloom starts in summer continuing all the way to frost. Fabiana is mainly a clumping plant with mounds that will expand gradually with time. Hibiscus Summerific 'Ballet Slippers' - Perennial Hibiscus - Hibiscus Summerific 'Ballet Slippers' is demure and delicate while packing a flower power punch. The large, seven inch wide flowers are pure white with overlapping petals like a pinwheel, a dark red centre, and blush pink edges. Attractive, healthy leaves are bright green with slightly serrated edges. Flowers are produced from the top of the plant to the bottom, rather than just at the top like some other cultivars.
Lavandula pedunculata 'The Princess' - Peony - This lovely French lavender (Lavandula pedunculata) is called 'The Princess'. It has lovely grey-green foliage but its best quality is the flowers which are produced in masses over a long period from late spring through summer. The stacked purple-pink flowers are topped with flaring, vivid, electric pink "wings" veined with darker pink. It's quite the show for border or container. Shear lightly after flowering and in early spring. Grow in thin soils in hot spots. Hibiscus Summerific 'Perfect Storm' - Perennial Hibiscus - Hibiscus Summerific 'Perfect Storm' has huge, seven to eight inch wide, white flowers, flushed with pink and a bright red eye that radiates out the veins. The foliage is a dusky burgundy colour on plants that are a manageable three feet tall. This is a great compact perennial hibiscus, like a half size version of 'Summer Storm', for smaller spaces.
