New Versions of Classic Plants
Lupins, Beebalms, and Peonies Get a Makeover for the Modern Garden

The interest in certain plants can be cyclical -- a plant can be all the rage for a time and then fall out of fashion. Perhaps they get sidelined by newer, snazzier plants or a strange new fad, or plants that speak more to new interests in the gardening community.

Sometimes those plants can come back into fashion all on their own but frequently it takes new breeding to update them for the modern age and a new generation of discerning gardeners.

That's the case with the plants we highlight below: the Westcountry lupins from England, the dwarf Patio Peonies, and various collections of dwarf Monarda.

The Westcountry lupins update this classic genus with dramatic spires of bicolour flowers. These aren't your grandmas's lupins!

The Bee-You, Balmy, and Sugar Buzz series of beebalms speak to our interest in native pollinators and long-blooming perennials while living and gardening in smaller spaces. These dwarf Monarda will attract bees, butterflies and hummingbirds to balconies, patios, and small gardens and large and can be grown in containers or the garden bed.

The Patio Peonies, each named after a European city, are dwarf peony that grow to only about two feet tall with copious flowers on compact, sturdy plants. These beloved garden plants can now be enjoyed in small spaces or grown in containers.

We have many plants at Phoenix Perennials that are updated and improved versions of classic garden plants. Have fun exploring the plants below and then come down to the nursery and explore all of the other new options we have for you in perennials and other garden plants.
