Carnivores in the House
Celebrating our 14th Anniversary Season!
Hello Fellow Gardeners!
We are excited to have carnivores in the house! Our pitcher plants and venus fly traps have arrived! Bugs beware!
In the Sarracenia (pitcher plants) we have six different species and cultivars available. In the venus fly traps we have two different varieties available.
These plants are easy to grow in pots. Just put them in a saucer of water about one inch deep and place them in full sun. They make a great centrepiece on a table or an eyecatching display on your patio. You can also place them on the edge of a pond or water feature.
There is no need to fertilize them. They will catch their own food all summer long and fill up with bugs.
In winter Sarracenia and venus fly traps can be brought up against the house, out of the rain and removed from the saucer of water but still kept moist. If we have a hard cold snap it might be best to put them in a slightly warmer location like a garage or shed or unheated or lightly heated greenhouse.
And there you have it: carnivores are easy, beautiful, intriguing, and fun. Have a look at the pictures below.
Come and see them!
