The Phoenix Perennials E-Newsletter
February 2010

Hello from Phoenix Perennials!

Happy Olympics to everyone! I hope everyone has a chance to experience the energy in the city. I was at the Opening Ceremonies and then downtown on Saturday and Sunday to see the flame and walk around to the different country pavilions. The energy is electric. The downtown was packed with a few hundred thousand extra people!

Without further ado, let's get back to plants. The 2010 season is about to begin. When all is said and done, when all the medals have been handed out, when Vancouver falls into a post-Olympic depression, Phoenix Perennials will be there for you with The Hellebore Hurrah! Opening Weekend. In this issue you can download the Hellebore Hurrah! Catalogue filled with delectable images of most of the hellebores we'll have on offer - over 90 different species, strains, and cultivars. Wow!

At the Hurrah! we'll launch our new 2010 collectible t-shirt. See below to learn what this year's saying is! And, if you live on the Sunshine Coast I'll be speaking in Gibsons on Thursday February 18th.

I have taken the plunge and created a Facebook Fan Page for Phoenix Perennials. If you are on Facebook all you have to do is click on the link below. Or, from your account, search "Phoenix Perennials" and click to become a Fan. Combined with the technology of my iPhone the Fan Page will allow me to send instant updates about the nursery and photos. If a brand new plant comes available or something is blooming its heart out, you'll be the first to know. On the Fan Page you'll also be able to see upcoming events and look at galleries of images.

New Facebook Fan Page
Follow new plants, events and happenings in real time with regularly posted images and notes from the nursery.

See you soon!

Cheers, Gary and the Phoenicians

Celebrate that Big Sporting Event that's Coming to Town and Cheer on Our Athletes with
Helleborus Vancouver Medallion

This beautiful hellebore has attractive evergreen foliage and flowers opening creamy white, darkening through yellow-green with a pink blush and then to rich chocolate. Squint your eyes and Vancouver Medallion looks like gold, silver and bronze medals! Originally given the name ‘Candy Love’ by Belgian breeder Het Wilgenbroek, this cultivar was rechristened by the Garden Club of Vancouver and Valleybrook Gardens with the name Vancouver Medallion in honour of the 2010 Winter Olympics. It has been mass planted at the top of Taylor Way in West Vancouver, at Prospect Point in Stanley Park and by gardeners all over Greater Vancouver to welcome visitors to our city and to show them how amazing gardening can be on the West Coast. Imagine! Flowers blooming at the Winter Olympics!

Special February Open Hours
Starting on Thursday February 4th we will be open Monday to Friday 10am to 4pm for you to pick up your Vancouver Medallions. We will remain closed on the Weekends, however, until the Hellebore Hurrah! Opening Weekend.
