Allium cyaneum
Common Name: Ornamental Onion Family: Alliaceae (The Onion Family)

Notes:
Allium cyaneum is a wonderful small species from China. It forms violet blue, open or pendant shaped flowers with long stamens above fine foliage in June and July. Unusual, hardy and easy to grow, it spreads by short rhizomes to form a clump. Few plants can offer the unique flower forms of ornamental onions.

Geogrpahical Origin:
Asia and the Pacific - Asia - China and Japan

Native Habitat:
Mountain steppe zones. With rare exception, Alliums are native to the Northern hemisphere, particularly in Asia and the eastern Mediterranean. Most enjoy sun and dry, well drained mineral soils.
