Whorls of long, thin, delicate leaves that curl slightly at the tips on lax or climbing stems to six feet tall. Shoots erupt dramatically from the ground in late spring and bloom soon after. The small clusters of narrow, creamy white to lilac flowers at the leaf axils transform themselves into ornate red berries in the fall. From eastern Asia through China to the Himalayas.
