This fascinating but rarely seen northeast Asian perennial herbaceous vine comes from the bellflower family. It has large, nodding, creamy green bell-shaped flowers with chocolate purple and violet shading and spotting on the inside. Like clematis, it wants its roots in the shade and top in the sun. Edible roots.
