This eastern North American native's tidy clumps of fine blue foliage provide colour and texture to the garden but in late summer explodes into stunning clouds of airy pink. Intolerant of winter wet so plant in hot dry conditions and poor soils. The west coast doesn't have enough summer heat to bloom the species but 'Fast Forward' blooms 3 weeks earlier offering the best hope for this graminaceous wonder!
Wet prairies, savannas, the outer edges of marshes, and in well drained upland pine forests. It is frequently found near the coast in interdune swales.
