The martagon is a classic woodland lily with small, delicate, pendant flowers with recurved petals.'Claude Shride' has dark red to burgundy flowers with golden orange centres and spots. Great in a part shade or woodland garden rising above hostas, arisaemas and Brunnera. Some martagon lilies will take a 'year off' especially in the year after being first planted. Dig down carefully to investigate before fretting.
Deciduous woods, scrub and mountain pasture, especially on limestone.
