The martagon is a classic woodland lily with small, delicate, pendant flowers with recurved petals. 'Slate's Morning' has orange red flowers with bright yellow centres and burgundy spots. Great in a part shade or woodland garden rising above hostas, arisaemas and Brunnera. Some martagon lilies will take a 'year off' especially in the year after being first planted. Dig down carefully to investigate before fretting.
Deciduous woods, scrub and mountain pasture, especially on limestone.
