Notes:
Licorice fern gets its name from the flavour of the rhizome when chewed. Try it if you like black licorice. This BC native is an epiphytic or lithophytic species growing on trees or rocks, particularly big leaf maples (Acer macrophyllum). It is elegant, somewhat sinuous, light green fronds. Grow it in hanging baskets, in shady crevices or on thin evenly moist soils. Evergreen if kept moist year-round otherwise will go summer dormant.

Dry and seasonally wet rocks. trees, and soil humus in lowland to montane zones from sea level to 1360 m in BC.
