Hello Fellow Gardeners!

At this time of year we often discover sad gardeners who assume they are too late to plant edibles and feel they've missed out on another season. This couldn't be further from the truth. June is still a great time to get your edible garden growing. Your crops of annual plants like basil, tomatoes, peppers, pumpkins, eggplants, and squash may even catch up to plants that were planted in early May. For instance, our one gallon grafted Mighty Matos are huge in their pots right now and flowering and these will catch up fast. Or, at the very least, your harvest time will be pushed back by a couple weeks due to the later planting. But you'll still get a good harvest.

For perennial edibles like asparagus, horseradish, thyme, rosemary, bay, mint, and more there's no time like the present. Planting as soon as possible, even now, will get them growing and establishing and get you harvestable plants earlier.

For edible woody plants like blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, grapes, persimmons, figs, pawpaws, honeyberries/haskaps, kiwis, and more there is also no time like the present. First year plantings, whether planted in April, May or June are still going to need to be watched carefully and watered well in their first summer so planting now will be no different in terms of the care required. You can also jump start rooting by using our Transplant Fertilizer so that roots can get more established before the summer heat kicks in.

Our Phoenix Fresh Edibles section is still stocked with a great variety of delicious plants to enliven your kitchen and your culinary life this summer and fall. So don't miss this opportunity. We've even put our grafted veggies on sale at 2 for 1 (details below) to inspire you to get your edible garden growing.

It may be a bit grey and rainy this weekend but I'll let you in on a little secret. Nurseries are quiet on weekends like this. It's the perfect time to come in and get all the attention you need from us. We'll have lots of time to help you! Shhh! Don't tell anyone! See you soon!
